Mr. Yaser Jabber: Another Example of an NHS Surgeon Causing More Harm than Good
Currently, an investigation is underway regarding Mr. Yaser Jabber’s surgical practices while he served as an orthopaedic surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Mr. Jabber, who has since relocated to Dubai, previously worked at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, raising the possibility that the review may extend to his practices there too.
Although the investigation is ongoing, alarming findings have been leaked to a prominent national newspaper. Out of 39 cases reviewed thus far, 22 patients— all of whom are children— have been found to have suffered harm due to Mr. Jabber’s treatment. There are still hundreds of additional cases pending review, suggesting that many more children may have been left in worse conditions as a result of Mr. Jabber’s shortcomings.
The NHS trust is being urged to provide more detailed information about the investigation. Initial findings indicate that Mr. Jabber’s failures include:
- Not obtaining informed consent (i.e., failing to explain all risks and expected benefits of surgery)
- Performing unnecessary surgeries
- Conducting surgeries to an unacceptable standard
- Providing substandard post-surgery care and treatment
Due to these failures, patients have experienced harm, with some children facing issues such as differing leg lengths, muscle damage, and nerve injuries. In one instance, a child had to undergo amputation following treatment by Mr. Jabber.
This is not the first case of an NHS surgeon being investigated for their practices. In 2023, a review of Mr. John Bradley Williamson’s work revealed that he caused ‘severe harm’ to some patients under his care at Salford Royal Hospital.

The NHS Trust has investigated our client’s case, raising concerns about the consent process and the technical execution of the spinal surgery performed by Mr. Williamson. We aim to thoroughly investigate these alleged shortcomings by engaging a leading UK spinal surgeon for an independent opinion.
Mr. Williamson also treated patients at Spire Manchester Hospital, which has announced plans to review cases of patients treated by him from 1998 onward.
