Cycling is one of the most popular forms of transportation and recreation, but unfortunately, cyclists are at risk of accidents on the road. Every year thousands of cyclists are injured on UK roads – some fatally so. If you have been involved in a cycling accident and suffered injuries due to another party’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation for your pain, suffering, and any financial losses. We have a team of skilled cycling accident solicitors here to help you navigate the complex claims process, from initial consultation to settlement or trial.

Types of Cyclists Claims We Handle

Cyclists are vulnerable to various types of accidents, and it’s crucial to understand your rights in different scenarios. We handle a wide range of cyclist injury claims, including:

  • Accidents with Motor Vehicles: Drivers often fail to notice cyclists, leading to collisions. Whether it’s a rear-end collision, a side swipe, or a hit-and-run, our team will investigate the circumstances of your crash and hold the responsible party accountable.
  • Road Hazards and Defects: Poorly maintained roads, potholes, and other hazards can cause cyclists to fall or crash. If an unsafe road condition led to your injury, we will work to identify the responsible entity (such as a municipality or property owner) and pursue compensation.
  • Cycling Accidents Caused by Other Cyclists: In some cases, accidents occur because of the reckless or negligent behaviour of another cyclist. We help ensure that you’re compensated if you were injured due to another cyclist’s actions.
  • Product Liability: If a defective bike, helmet, or other cycling equipment caused your injury, you may be entitled to a claim against the manufacturer or retailer.
  • Accidents Involving Pedestrians: Pedestrians can sometimes cross into cycling lanes or walk in front of cyclists unexpectedly. If a pedestrian caused your injury, we can help you compensation.

How we helped our client Mr U after a cycling accident

Our client Mr U was involved in an incident on his bike, he suffered multiple soft tissue injuries and psychological injury. His bicycle was also damaged beyond economical repair.

Mr U was understandably traumatised by this experience, especially given the fact that he was a vulnerable road user and his injuries could have been a lot worse.

Whilst the insurer’s enquiries were underway, we arranged for Mr U to be medically examined with two different medical experts and the insurers eventually agreed to deal with the claim in full. In addition, they put forward a pre-medical which was rejected as per our advice.

Once all the medical evidence had been finalised and served on the insurers, they were invited to make an offer to settle. Court proceedings were issued upon the insurers making an offer which was not capable of acceptance and following negotiations with the solicitors acting on behalf of the insurers, we were pleased to secure a settlement in the sum of £16,000 which Mr U was happy to accept and upon accepting the offer he expressed in his feedback as follows;

“Thank you so much for dealing with my case in the way that you have, not once have I felt pressured or stressed with the process.”

What type of Injuries can I claim for?

While cyclist can take steps to protect themselves from injury if they are involved in a road accident, such as wearing a helmet, the impact of being hit by a vehicle can be catastrophic. Depending on the severity of your accident, you could be facing long-term or permanent consequences. We handle all types of cycling-related injuries, including:

  • Head Injuries and Concussions: Even with helmets, head injuries are common in cycling accidents. A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can affect your ability to work and live independently.
  • Fractures and Broken Bones: Fractured arms, legs, ribs, and collarbones are common injuries in cycling accidents. These can require expensive treatments, surgery, and long recovery periods.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: Injuries to the spine can result in partial or total paralysis, requiring ongoing medical care and support.
  • Soft Tissue Injuries: Sprains, strains, bruises, and torn ligaments are often sustained in cycling accidents. Though these injuries may not always require surgery, they can still be debilitating and require physical therapy.
  • Psychological Injuries: The emotional and mental toll of a cycling accident is often overlooked. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression can be significant outcomes of a traumatic event.

The Claims Process

Navigating a cyclist injury claim can be complicated, but with our help, the process becomes much easier. Here’s a breakdown of the steps you can expect:

1. Initial Consultation: Contact us for a free consultation. We’ll discuss the details of your accident, the injuries you’ve sustained, and how we can help you.
2. Investigation and Evidence Gathering: We’ll investigate the circumstances of the accident, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and consult experts to build a strong case on your behalf.
3. Claim Submission: Once we have all the necessary evidence, we will submit your claim to the at-fault party’s insurance company or directly to the court, depending on the nature of your claim and time limits involved.
4. Negotiation or Trial: We’ll negotiate with the insurance company to ensure you receive a fair settlement. If the insurance company is unwilling to offer an adequate settlement, we are prepared to take your case to trial.
5. Settlement or Judgment: Once a settlement or favourable judgment is reached, you will receive compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related damages.
