£30,000 recovered for injuries sustained in road traffic accident
We recently secured a settlement of £30,000 for our client, a pedestrian who was crossing the road at a Pelican crossing in a busy city centre. As she made her way across the road, a taxi approached at speed having just come off a nearby roundabout and entered the crossing without stopping and struck our client, knocking her to the ground.
She suffered a fracture to her shoulder along with significant psychological symptoms.
The taxi driver initially denied any involvement in this accident, and this caused our client unnecessary distress as she was worried her claim would not succeed. Fortunately, the police had attended the scene and recorded the taxi’s registration number and using this we were able to identify the correct insurers and continue to pursue the claim dispute the driver’s denial.
As the insurers refused to accept liability or acknowledge the driver’ s involvement, we took action by issuing court proceedings and it was only then that their solicitors began to make settlement offers.
Although early offers were made, these did not reflect the full extent of our client’s injuries, and she agreed to reject the offers in line with our specialist advice. We then entered into robust negotiations with the solicitors and successfully increased the defendant’s initial offers securing a £30,000 settlement, which our client was happy to accept.
Annie Rana, the solicitor who handled the case, commented:
Ms S endured a traumatic accident. This case demonstrates that by putting the insurers under pressure and by engaging in strong negotiation can make a real difference, ultimately securing a fair settlement.
