Though some people have longstanding relationships with a particular firm of solicitors, or specific solicitors, for a lot of people it can be difficult to know where to start.  Seemingly endless supplies of law firms clamour for attention – how do you know who to choose?  Hopefully the below points will offer some guidance, and explain why we’re confident Aston Knight Solicitors Bury will be right for you, particularly if you are looking for a local solicitor in Bury.

It is a decision that should not be made lightly as, with any profession, no two solicitors are alike – just because a solicitor is qualified does not make them right for you; whether it be ability, personality, subject specialism, experience, or more – there are many factors to consider.  Some cases, particularly high value matters, or fiercely disputed cases, can take years to settle, so you can sometimes be in it for the “long haul” together.

It might help to look at some common misconceptions when it comes to choosing a solicitor.

Misconception: “It’s a big law firm – that means they’ll be good”.

Whilst this can on occasion prove true, regrettably, for financial reasons, the typical structure of many large firms is that of cases being run on a day-to-day basis by more junior employees such as paralegals.  Aston Knight Solicitors are committed to ensuring cases are dealt with by experienced solicitors, with excellent track records, at all times.  Our ethos has always been to pursue quality and specialism, shunning mass production/commoditised work practises that, whilst profitable, often result in poor client service.

Misconception: “The firm has lots of badges and accreditations on their website – they must be good”

Whilst in an ideal world this would be the case, many of these “accreditations” are in fact easily purchased.  So-called “award ceremonies” even take place in which a group of firms come together to each give each other awards to display on their websites.  Aston Knight Solicitors are routinely offered opportunities to purchase these so-called “accreditations” to display on our website but our preference has always been to instead strive for genuine positive client feedback.

Misconception: “They’ve been around for ages – that means they’re reputable.”

Being around for a long time means simply that.  The fact the firm in question has remained static for hundreds of years should perhaps if anything sound alarm bells as high quality businesses tend to expand as time goes on.  Further, many of these local “high street” firms began in times when the profession was much smaller and there was very little competition; on the other hand, a handful of specialists at the top of their game could found a new, specialist firm tomorrow – who would you rather have?  Remember: quality trumps duration!
